Kicking off against the picturesque backdrop of the newly minted Dickinson Legacy Square, the Live at Legacy Square concert series emerged as a magnetic force for both locals and visitors all summer.

"We have had a wonderful inaugural summer season at Dickinson Legacy Square," Joel Walters, marketing and events director with the City of Dickinson, said. "The community has come out in large numbers to attend our programming and to share this new space in our downtown."

The Legacy Square, a recent addition to Dickinson's downtown landscape, emerged as a communal haven, uniting the community and providing an unparalleled platform for shared experiences and jubilations. It swiftly evolved into a nucleus for residents to revel in unity and hometown pride, amid a variety of music, food and entertainment opportunities.

The Live at Legacy Square concert series, a sequence of free concerts that commenced with the square's inaugural celebration, treated attendees to a melodic feast every Thursday evening from approximately 6 p.m. from June through August. The series boasted an eclectic musical lineup, catering to diverse tastes ranging from country ballads to resounding rock anthems. Notably, the series showcased accomplished North Dakota artists, presenting Dickinson's residents with an opportunity to engage with local talents.

This year's performers enjoyed the prestigious distinction of being the debut acts on the novel stage, graced by a substantial digital screen that added a contemporary flair to each performance. Attendees also relished an array of amenities that augmented their concert experience, including the inclusion of pergolas that granted much-appreciated shade, a sheltered pavilion equipped with retractable walls and more that ensured that the shows could proceed seamlessly, regardless of the weather's whims.

Weather whims were an inevitable part of any series of events in southwest North Dakota, with one of the main attractions in Kat Perkins, the Scranton native and The Voice Season 6 semi-finalist, being canceled the day of due to inclement weather.

Area children enjoyed the festivities each week, and throughout the week, with opportunities to play and splash in an area specifically designed for children. The added benefit introduced an extra layer of family-friendly revelry to the evenings' performances.

"Whether enjoying the wide variety of musical concerts or engaging in the non-musical offerings for all ages, our community has come and has participated," said Walters. "We appreciate the support, the enthusiasm and the great feedback we have received from our community partners and our citizens."

As the Tigirlily Gold performance brought the curtain down on this year's Live at Legacy Square free concert series, it left an indelible imprint on Dickinson's cultural landscape. The series did not merely entertain; it nurtured a sense of community, with individuals from all walks of life converging in their shared ardor for music and collective experiences.

Tigirlily Gold, an animated sister duo entrenched in musical harmony, have been composing captivating melodies since their formative years. From their first steps, these sisters embarked on a musical odyssey that eventually coalesced into a band during their high school tenure. With their origins rooted in the Midwest, Tigirlily Gold swiftly cultivated a devoted following, commanding sold-out amphitheaters throughout their North Dakota homeland — including in Dickinson on Aug. 24.

Presently, Tigirlily Gold embarks on a thrilling new chapter with their latest EP, "Blonde." This anthology of songs delves into the fabric of their personal encounters, addressing themes of love, bereavement, and female empowerment. The EP's leading single, "Shoot Tequila," unveiled in January, has metamorphosed into a viral sensation, amassing over 60 million views across diverse social media platforms.

From the inaugural celebration to the captivating finale by Tigirlily Gold, the series transformed the Legacy Square into a hub of joy, where the community found respite in the notes and rhythms that filled the air.

"We plan to expand our programming into the latter months of the year, as weather allows, and to incorporate holiday events into the annual schedule at the square," said Walters.
