Tiger Woods sends Mike Trout a gift best used in the offseason after record-setting day
Mike Trout had a special gift waiting for him in the clubhouse a day after the Los Angeles Angels center fielder set a franchise record by reaching base safely in his first 28 games of the season.
The sender was none other than Tiger Woods.
Tiger sends gift to Trout
Trout came back to the clubhouse Thursday to a long, large cardboard box. From J.P. Hoornstra at The Orange County Register:
Soon, Trout opened the box to reveal its extraordinary contents: a pair of TaylorMade golf clubs sent by none other than Tiger Woods himself.
Trout said he and Woods have never met — he’s a big fan of the recent Masters winner — and he doesn’t know how he got on the golfer’s mailing list.
Trout, Woods are different ends of era
Woods, 43, stunned the sports world with his win at Augusta National last month. It was his first Masters win since 2005.
The Angels were “The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” in 2005, and Trout was a freshman in high school. The Angels drafted him in 2009.
His Twitter profile has numerous references and tags to Tiger over the years, including last month after the Masters.

Trout, 27, is off to another MVP-worthy year. His franchise record was set in part because of his patience at the plate. He had hits in 21 of the games and worked a total of 12 walks over the other seven. Trout leads the league in averaging nearly one walk for every four plate appearances (24.2 percent) and a .492 on-base percentage.
