'Tig': Watch a Trailer for Comedian Tig Notaro's Moving New Netflix Doc

In August 2012, comedian Tig Notaro took the stage at one of L.A.’s premiere comedy venues, Largo, and kicked off her set with an unprecedented opening line: "Good evening, hello. I have cancer. How are you?“ What followed was a painfully honest and painfully hilarious account of her diagnosis of Stage 2 breast cancer. The set became a Twitter sensation and earned her the admiration of fellow comics like Louis C.K. and Ed Helms.

The story of that night, and what came before and next, is chronicled in the new documentary Tig, premiering on Netflix. Directed by Kristina Goldsby and Ashley York, the film follows Notaro through her treatment and features interviews and appearances by such noted comic personalities as Sarah Silverman, Conan O’Brien, and her fiancée, actress Stephanie Allynne. And, of course, it also contains lots of Notaro’s best on-stage material, proving that laughter isn’t necessarily the best medicine, but can certainly be a life saver during a personal crisis.

Tig premieres Friday, July 17 on Netflix.
