Tiffany Haddish will face two misdemeanor charges after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle, PEOPLE can confirm.

The comedian, 44, was arrested in the early hours of Nov. 24 after the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to a call about a woman who was stopped in the middle of Beverly Drive while the vehicle was running.

The night prior, Haddish had performed at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood in honor of its free Thanksgiving feast, according to TMZ.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office confirmed to PEOPLE that the Girls Trip star was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and a misdemeanor count of driving with .08% blood alcohol content. Her arraignment and plea is scheduled for Dec. 22.

Hours after her arrest, Haddish performed in a previously scheduled stand-up show at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, and addressed the situation, according to audio obtained by TMZ from an audience member.

In the recording, Haddish is asked what happened "last night" and jokingly replies, "You tell me." She adds, "I had prayed to God to send me a man with a job, career, preferably in a uniform, and I answered my prayers."

The news comes after she was arrested in Georgia for a suspected DUI and improper stopping on a roadway in January 2022.

"Subsequent investigation led to Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for Driving Under the Influence," police told PEOPLE at the time. "She was transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident."

Haddish told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Nov. 27. that she is "going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries."

Of her arrest, she explained to the outlet that her Tesla had self-parked when she fell asleep and was blocking a part of the street when officers arrived. The Here Today actress also complimented how the Beverly Hills police handled the situation and said that she was in good spirits.

While marking her 44th birthday earlier this month, Haddish wrote an Instagram tribute post to herself in which she said she is "ready for my next chapter in life."

The actress will open up about her life in her second book, I Curse You With Joy, which will feature a collection of essays and stories and will be published in May 2024 from Diversion Books.

"I'm so excited to share the rollercoaster of success that I've been on with my readers and to show them that just because I'm famous, that doesn't mean I'm not human. I find the joy in the hardest things in life which you'll all be able to read about in this new book," Haddish told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement.
