If you’ve been glued to your Instagram feed this holiday season following along all the festive traditions of your favorite celebs, you’ve been richly rewarded. Stars like Kelly Ripa and Khloé Kardashian have shared some truly stunning Christmas trees and traditions. And the likes of Natalie Portman and Andy Cohen have shown off their Hanukkah recipes and intimate candle-lighting moments with kiddos.

Among the stars celebrating Hanukkah this year is Tiffany Haddish, who began connecting with her Jewish identity after learning at age 27 that her father was an Eritrean Jew and that she was Jewish. In honor of her 40th birthday earlier this month, she even learned Hebrew and had a bat mitzvah — attended by big (Jewish) names in the comedy world like Sarah Silverman and Billy Crystal.

“I didn’t know anything about Judaism for a long time,” she recently told the Jewish pub Alma. “When I met my father, it really resonated with me. I was like: This is what I am. I did my 23&Me, and it said the same thing. I [thought], well, I can’t deny this. I wanna claim it.”

Claiming her Jewish identity means that Haddish is celebrating Hanukkah this year — and she’s learning a lot along the way.

On her Instagram, Haddish posted a photo on December 26, the fifth night of Hanukkah, showing two menorahs lit side by side on a countertop.

“Ok y’all I got it right,” she captioned the photo. “Thank you to my Jewish sisters and brothers on teaching me! For years I have been lighting the extra candle on the last day. That’s what happens when you teaching yourself or hanging with other that are like just as long as we lit we good.”

She added the hashtags for #happyhannukah, and #stilllearning. And we’d say Haddish modeling the pursuit of lifelong learning and open mindedness is a great lesson at the holidays — or any time of year.
