Tiffani Thiessen Admits There's One Thing She Refuses To Do Now That She's 50

Tiffani Thiessen turned 50 years old at the end of January and she’s never felt better. Instead of getting anxious about a new decade of life, she’s embraced this season — but there is one thing she refuses to do, and it has everything to do with the gorgeous, dark locks that made her famous on Saved by the Bell.

“A lot of people always focused on my hair,” she explained to People. “So, it’s important to me that it looks good. Also, your hair health shows a lot about your health in general. But you can’t help the hormonal changes that happen with pregnancy and age.” Age does sometimes bring about changes in hair color, so how is she feeling about the gray strand that might pop up occasionally?

“I totally cover the grays,” Thiessen added. “I have not embraced it. But my mom just went completely grey and did the whole transition, and she looks so good. So I’m like, OK, maybe I’ll get there.” And then she quipped, “One day. Maybe.” The Beverly Hills 90210 star isn’t ready to embrace her inner Andie MacDowell just yet, but that’s the beauty in aging — she’s doing what feels right for her, not what beauty standards telling her to do.

MacDowell was somewhat of a pioneer during the pandemic, leading the charge for many other actresses to let their hair grow out naturally. The Hallmark Channel star had a solid reason for letting it happen. If I were coloring my hair, people might perceive me as being younger,” MacDowell explained to SheKnows’ Flow. “I just don’t need that; it’s not something that I desire. It’s not a perception that would be satisfying for me. I’m comfortable being seen as an aging woman.”

Both Thiessen and MacDowell are doing what makes them feel the most comfortable in this season of life. What works for one star, doesn’t necessarily work for the other. But their equally powerful choices prove that the societal beauty pressures are starting to shift the narrative for women over 50. Bring it on!
