Though the historic Black neighborhood of Linnentown has previously been the subject of documentary films, books and podcasts, it will make its stage debut next year in musical form. Tickets for a one-night-only performance of "Linnentown: The Musical" are scheduled to go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. The musical will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 12.

The Classic Center will be the host venue for the production, which was written by "Giving Voice to Linnentown" author Hattie Thomas Whitehead. It depicts the historically significant Athens community that was erased due to urban renewal in the 1960s. The Classic Center's website described the musical as "an artistic tribute to these families, their stories, struggles, and triumphs."

Tickets for "Linnentown: The Musical" will cost from $15 to $35, and an educator-exclusive matinee designed for middle to high school-aged students will be held at 11 a.m. April 11. For tickets and group booking information, visit classiccenter.com/1585/Linnentown---The-Musical.

Also going on sale Friday will be tickets for the classic ballet "Swan Lake," which will be staged at The Classic Center. The performance will be held at 6 p.m. March 3. Ticket prices range from $35 to $80.
