A ticket doesn't have to be golden to admit you into 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'

SOUTH BEND — “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” opens Oct. 13 and continues through Oct. 29 at South Bend Civic Theatre, 403 N. Main St.

The musical features an original score by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (“Hairspray”), and book by David Greig, as well as songs from the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” including “The Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination.”

Based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book of the same name, the story follows Charlie Bucket and four other Golden Ticket winners as they enter the magical and mysterious world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14, 19-21 and 27-28 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 15, 22 and 29.

Tickets are $35-$25.
