Thurston Moore has offered an update on the “debilitating” health condition that forced him to cancel the book tour he had slated for this fall. Speaking in a new interview, the Sonic Youth co-founder said that he’s not too worried about the ailment, as “the prognosis is very good.”

The revelation came in a conversation with The New York Times published earlier this week, in which Moore explained that he has been suffering from a common heart rhythm abnormality called atrial fibrillation for several years. In the past, the condition has been manageable, but according to Moore: “This year, it became slightly concerning… I was finding myself at times to be so weak I could hardly walk around the neighborhood.”

Though Moore felt that he “could just power through it” in order to embark on the tour promoting his new memoir, Sonic Life, doctors felt otherwise and advised him not to fly. Still, Moore isn’t overly stressed. He’s currently awaiting treatment, and told the Times that he “wasn’t too anxious.” He has two dates booked in the UK next month to promote the book, which he’s still hoping to make happen (if you’re on that side of the pond, get your tickets here).

Sonic Life is set to arrive on October 24th via Doubleday Books in the US and Faber & Faber in the UK, with pre-orders ongoing. Moore has described the book as “the story of my childhood and teenage years as I fell in love with music (for the most part unbridled rock ’n’ roll) and how it drove me to New York City, where I would co-found Sonic Youth. It’s an adventure that would take me around the globe throughout the 1980s, ’90s, and onward.”

Elsewhere in the New York Times interview, Moore also gave some insight into the possibility of a Sonic Youth reunion, stating that while he doesn’t “foresee it happening,” he feels the option is “something that’s always going to be on the table.”

Earlier this year, Moore shared the single “Hypnogram”,” and confirmed a forthcoming album is on the way. In the Times interview, he even revealed that he completed an album earlier this year for his project Thurston Moore Group titled Flow Critical Lucidity, which is due out sometime next spring.
