Thundercat, Fleet Foxes to headline Denver’s first Outside Festival

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver’s first-ever Outside Festival will kick off a weekend of live music, adventure films, visionary speakers, immersive experiences and more at Civic Center Park.

Created by the minds at Outside magazine, the festival is an extension of their mission “to get everyone outside.”

“Attendees of the inaugural Outside Festival are truly going to be blown away by everything we’ve put together this year,” Outside CEO Robin Thurston said. “This festival is going to be incredible — you won’t want to miss it!”

The festival begins Friday, May 31, and goes through the weekend with several music groups, over 20 inspiring films, 25 outdoor visionary speakers, and outdoor experiences for all.

Friday: The Summit

Outdoor industry professionals are invited to gather at the Denver Art Museum for The Summit, where business leaders and innovators will present thought-provoking panel discussions.

U.S. Sens. John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet will be among many speakers at the event. Speakers will cover topics like:

  • Sustainability, climate and conservation

  • Inclusion, access and equity

  • Creativity, marketing, leadership and trends

  • Policy, politics and the outdoor industry

The Summit will go from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes breakfast, lunch and a variety of discussion panels. Tickets that include The Summit event start at $390 and come with two general admission tickets for the Outside Festival.

Saturday-Sunday: Yoga, speakers, films and music

The Outside Festival happens over the weekend with events beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Both days begin with a group yoga flow at 1 p.m. near the main stage led by CorePower Yoga. DJ Rich Cocao and DJ Quiet Light will provide beats throughout the yoga sessions.

Speeches and panels begin at the museum’s Sturm Pavilion at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with speakers including three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, climate activist and fashion model Quannah Chasinghorse, legendary alpinist Conrad Anker, record-breaking swimmer Diana Dyad and other outdoor icons, filmmakers and influencers.

The Film x Ideas series will feature inspiring short films and documentaries, which will be shown in the museum’s Sharp Auditorium throughout the afternoon on both days. Saturday’s shows have themes around adventure and journeys, and Sunday’s shows focus on themes like community, resilience and discovery.

There will be three climbing walls for experienced and first-time climbers to try out, as well as a climbing competition from 1-8 p.m. There will also be an accessible climbing experience available.

Throughout the afternoon on both days, there will be dog shows at Civic Center Park with award-winning dog teams performing stunts through obstacle courses.

Additionally, the Big Gear Show and (e)Revolution Show will be at Veterans Memorial Park through the weekend featuring all kinds of outdoor gear, some equipment that attendees can test and experts with information to share. Plus, attendees can trade old outdoor gear for cash.

Live music will happen on the main stage throughout the day, with headliners starting in the evening.

  • DJ Rich Cacao at 1 p.m.

  • Los Mocochetes at 3:45 p.m.

  • Say She She at 5 p.m.

  • Lettuce at 6:45 p.m.

  • Thundercat at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday music:

  • DJ Quiet Light at 1 p.m.

  • Selasee and the Fafa Family at 2:25 p.m.

  • Nathaniel Riley at 3:55 p.m.

  • The Heavy Heavy at 5 p.m.

  • Andrew Bird at 6:45 p.m.

  • Fleet Foxes at 8:30 p.m.

There will also be food trucks, a hydration station, a kids zone, activities and competitions for runners and cyclists and more. A full schedule of events for the festival can be found online.

Single-day general admission tickets cost $59, with two-day admission and VIP upgrades available.
