In dire need of an upgrade at backup point guard, the Oklahoma City Thunder have signed veteran journeyman Raymond Felton, 32, to a one-year deal, per ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

The Thunder will be Felton’s seventh NBA team. Last year with the Los Angeles Clippers, Felton averaged 6.7 points per game and 2.4 assists per game in a hair over 21 minutes per game. He played in 80 games in his only season in the City of Angels.

While adding Felton certainly isn’t a flashy signing, it’s a necessary one for the Thunder, already one of the biggest winners this offseason following the acquisition of Paul George. The team completely fell apart every time Russell Westbrook left the floor last season. Acquiring Felton should at least mitigate the issues the team had when the reigning MVP sat. Felton will look to beat out Semaj Christon for the backup point guard minutes.
