Three wishes granted by a genie in a magic lamp and a thief is turned into a prince

SOUTH BEND — American Theatre Guild presents “Disney’s Aladdin” from March 19 to 24 at the Morris Performing Arts Center, 211 N. Michigan St.

Based on the 1992 animated film and centuries-old folktales, including “One Thousand and One Nights,” the musical sets audiences on a journey into an exciting world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance.

The plot follows the adventure of Aladdin, a thief who’s granted three wishes by a genie in a magic lamp, and Princess Jasmine, whose father, the sultan, plans to force her to marry by her birthday — three days away.

Meanwhile, Aladdin and Jasmine fall in love and the sultan’s Grand Vizier plots to usurp his throne.

This new production features a full score, including the five songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and more written especially for the stage.

The film won the Oscar for Best Original Score and introduced the hit song “A Whole New World,” which won thesecond of the film’s two Academy Awards as Best Original Song.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 19-21, 8 p.m. March 22, 2 and 8 p.m. March 23, and 2 p.m. March 24.
