Three holiday productions to check out this winter season

Not sure how to plan some of your free time this winter season?

Consider checking out a holiday production at one of these three community theaters in the Coastal Bend.

'Winter Wonderettes' at Aurora Arts Theatre

Starting Friday, the Wonderettes are back at Aurora.

The annual winter musical features four women, Missy, Betty Jean, Suzy and Cindy Lou, as they entertain at Harper's Hardware Holiday Party. When Santa Claus turns up missing, the four use their talent to save the holiday party.

The play features 1960s versions of holiday classics including "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Winter Wonderland."

Showings: Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 31

'A Christmas Carol' at Harbor Playhouse

Harbor Playhouse's annual tradition of showing "A Christmas Carol" returns to the Coastal Bend, starting Friday, Nov. 24.

The play is an adaptation of author Charles Dickens' most well-known story.

Ebenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeon who believes wealth is more important than happiness, get visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve. Thanks to their guidance, the once-grumpy man starts to realize his faults and understand the meaning of love and family.

Showings: Friday, Nov. 24 through Saturday, Dec. 23

'All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914' at Port Aransas Community Theatre

Out of the violence of World War I there was a silence, and then a song.

A German soldier stepped into No Man's Land and sang "Stille Nacht," otherwise known as the Christmas carol "Silent Night."

The play is based on a true story told in the words and songs of the men who lived it during a night of camaraderie, music and peace.

Tickets: $22; active and former military have free admission
