Thousands of pounds of lobsters heading to 2 metro Detroit annual events

Downtown Trenton's Lobstoberfest and Holiday Market's Fall Bash take place Sept. 29-30 featuring lobster dishes, merchandise vendors, a beer tent, live music and other entertainment.

This is the second year for Lobstoberfest hosted by Trenton businesses, Truago restaurant, the Vintage Market Mercantile and Roundhouse BBQ. For the festival, West Jefferson in downtown Trenton will be blocked off from Elm Street to West Road.

Lobstoberfest kicks off with a tent party from 4 to 11 p.m. Sept. 29 at Truago, which will set up a big tent serving a buffet with dozens of lobster dishes and side dishes. On Sept. 30, the event takes place 11 a.m.-11 p.m. West Jefferson Street will be lined with more than 50 vendors, food trucks, a bounce house for kids and the Jurassic Park Motor Pool. There will be a visit from the Lake Erie Hexenbrut dancing witches. Other entertainment includes local band 50 Amp Fuse closing out the evening from 9 to 11 p.m.

The Roundhouse BBQ on West Jefferson will be offering a menu of Octoberfest foods.

For the two-day event, which draws thousands, Truago owner Jeremy Syrocki expects to go through at least 1,000 pounds of lobster meat plus more than 300 whole lobsters.

At the lobster buffet, available only in the tent, expect to find at least a dozen lobster dishes, including lobster bisque, mac and cheese, ravioli, scampi and lasagna. The cost for the all-you-can-eat lobster buffet is $38.99 per person. You can add a whole, cooked Maine lobster (1¼ pounds) or an 8-ounce filet mignon for $24.99. Holiday Market's annual late summer Lobsterfest, first held in 2004, is still going strong.

Orders for lobster and seafood are being taken for Sept. 28-30 event. This year, the market is expected to sell more than 3,000 lobsters according to Hannah Frank, Holiday Market marketing manager. It’s best to order early.

The three-day event offers special pricing on lobsters and other seafood. Lobsters are $11.99 per pound (live) and  $15.99 per pound (cooked). The lobsters are 1¼ pounds and are regularly priced at $19.99 per pound. You can also order boiled or sautéed shrimp for $7.99 per pound or raw shrimp at $6.99 per pound. Jumbo snow crab clusters, mussels and littleneck clams are also offered at special prices. You can order up to 10 lobsters per person per day. When ordering cooked items, you need to choose a pickup date and time. All the cooked items are hot out of the pot and packaged for customers when they arrive.

The lobsters are cooked in a seafood boil of fresh lemons, sea salt and Holiday Market's own spice packet. Its cooked shrimp are boiled or sautéed in the market's Motown spice. If you want surf and turf, the market will have a special on New York strip steaks for $12.99 per pound during the lobster event.
