Thomasville Center for the Arts presents two new fall exhibitions opening Oct. 6

Sep. 29—THOMASVILLE- Thomasville Center for the Arts presents an exciting showcase of design and contemporary art through two exhibitions set to open on October 6th. Marlo Ransdell, a distinguished professor in the Department of Interior Architecture and Design at Florida State University, and Laura De Valencia, a contemporary artist, and designer who recently completed her MFA at Florida State University, will have exhibitions in Thomasville Center for the Arts' Main Gallery spaces.

"processing..." unveils an innovative exploration by Ransdell, delving into the iterative nature of design. Through sheets of acrylic and plywood, Ransdell steps beyond her conventional fabrication methods to craft a series of furniture pieces.

Inspired by contemporary design and found objects. True to its namesake, this exhibition represents a segment of Ransdell's ongoing creative journey. Each piece, forged in Studio D, her fabrication lab and classroom based in Tallahassee, becomes a source of inspiration for the next. Collections take shape, designs morph, and remnants of ongoing work evolve into art pieces themselves. Explore a designer's world, from concept to creation to exhibition, and immerse in the tactile experiences and forthcoming workshops that highlights Ransdell's creative process.

In De Valencia's latest exhibition, "Configuractiones," the interplay of geometry, line, and intuitive mark-making conveys the spontaneous movements of humanity against the backdrop of fixed elements like political borders, bounded spaces, and urban landscapes. Hailing from Barranquilla, Colombia, De Valencia's fascination with lines originated in her elementary school geography classes, where she sketched maps and copied lines from atlases. In this recent body of work, she examines these concepts through expressive mark-making. As De Valencia explains, "Only through the act of drawing I have managed to externalize my observations, the tension I described between the exactitude of the landscape and the impulsivity of human movement, between the rigid and the free flowing, perhaps even between the Caribbean and the expanses of North America."

Join Thomasville Center for the Arts for the grand opening on First Friday from 5-7, where they anticipate a large presence for engaging artist talks, tasty refreshments, and wine. This event is free and open to all ages.
