“So You Think You Can Dance” Contestant Korra Obidi Stabbed in Alleged London Attack: 'I'm in the Hospital'

Obidi said the alleged attack, which she claimed also saw liquid thrown on her, was a "wake up call"

Korra Obidi was taken to the hospital after allegedly being stabbed in London.

On Thursday, April 11, the former So You Think You Can Dance contestant, 32, — who auditioned for the FOX show in 2019 while pregnant — alleged she had been the victim of an attack involving a knife and had also had liquid thrown on her.

In her Instagram post about the incident, Obidi wrote that “there was a knife, acid attack on me." She was also seen saying in the video posted alongside her caption, — which was apparently filmed soon after the incident — that her face was “burning” and asking a stranger for “some Coke to wash it.”

The bystander, who also later pointed out some blood on the Nigerian dancer, was then seen handing Obidi a bottle of Coca-Cola, which she began placing over her face with her hands. The video then switched to footage of a yellow knife on the floor, with blood visible on the blade.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the Metropolitan Police in London said the liquid was later confirmed to be “a non-noxious cosmetic item.”

“Currently in an ambulance to the hospital, there was a knife, acid attack on me in the UK 🇬🇧 in the middle of a live stream. There's been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake up call," she wrote in the caption of the Instagram video,

Obidi, who appeared as a contestant in the live auditions for the dance show in 2019, but did not advance beyond that stage, also said that her alleged attacker was, “Black female, 5 foot.”

She later added an update in the comments section of the post, “Guys I’m in the hospital. Safety with travel is no longer a luxury but necessity. The acid was salicylic and I was lucky. Love you guys.”

Police were called just after 1:40 p.m. local time on April 11 to reports of an assault in central London, the police confirmed to PEOPLE.

“Officers attended and found a woman in her 30s with a cut to her hand and reporting a liquid had been thrown at her face. She was taken to hospital for treatment,” the statement added in part. “Another woman left the scene prior to police arrival.”

Authorities said an investigation into the incident is underway.

Later in the video shared on Obidi's Instagram, two police officers could be seen treating her following the attack. While one sprayed a substance on her back, the other poured a clear liquid into her eyes.

“Is this helping at all? Is the pain going?” the officer treating the dancer's eyes asked, to which she responded with a nod.

“That’s good, that means it’s working,” he added.

Obidi also shared a video on her Instagram Stories of herself wrapped up in what appeared to be a blanket or towel while what sounded like a police officer relayed details of the incident and Obidi's alleged attacker on a radio in the background.

Ahead of Obidi's posts, her sister Nancy Umeh also spoke out about the alleged attack on her Instagram Stories.

"Someone has threatened my sister's life in the UK, they poured acid on my sister's face,” Umeh said on April 11. “They threatened to stab her all over her body and they have stabbed her on her hands, just outside her Airbnb in Westminster, London."

Umeh said that she had contacted the police following the incident.

“My sister has been attacked with acid and shallow stabbed in the UK,” she captioned the Instagram Stories post.
