Things to do in Polk: 'Cinderella' ballet, Blue Collar comedy, a Latin Christmas

Ok, so Halloween is over, Thanksgiving has passed, Christmas is in the books and the thrill of New Year’s Eve and Day has been shelved for another cycle around the sun.

But just because the holiday festivities have waxed and waned, it doesn’t mean there no are fun and interesting events going on across Polk County. Just as any week in good ol’ Imperial Polk County,  there are plenty of diversions if you’re in the mood.

Here are a few suggestions courtesy of The Ledger – if that mood strikes you.

Surround Sound: Immersive Sound Healing Experience

This is a unique, immersive, 90-minute vibrational sound therapy spa session in Lake Wales’ Bok Tower Alexander Discovery Center, 1151 Tower Blvd. From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, participants will lie on yoga mats in the middle of the room and be fully immersed in healing tones and singing bowls’ vibrational frequencies, which will be set up all around the room in a north, south, east and west direction – creating an energetic frequency grid around the attendees. Smooth Saturday Coffeehouse with Joy Duprey

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Mister Chris’ Coffee Depot, 118 E. Wall St., Frostproof, singer and guitarist Joy Duprey will lead a laid-back morning with a repertoire of  familiar soulful songs and melodies. The coffee shop will have quiche Lorraine or veggie quiche with a side of fresh seasonal fruit and berries and a cup of coffee. Mimosas will also be available. Arguably one of the most famous love stories of all time comes to the RP Funding Center’s Youkey Theatre, 701 W. Lime St., Lakeland, on Thursday. The 7:30 p.m. show is set to Prokofiev's classic score and features new choreography and productions by Andrey Litvinov. The ballet company premiered "Cinderella" in Dnipro Opera House, Ukraine, Feb. 26-27, 2021, but the pandemic disrupted the performances. However, this new interpretation of a timeless classic still managed to be completed. Tickets are $53, $64, $75, $86 and $97. Carnival Cruise Lines' “Entertainer of the Year,” Sarasota comedian Al Ernst, a regular on the Blue Collar Network on Sirius/XM radio, brings his “day-in-the-life-of” humor to Winter Haven’s Laugh Out Loud Lounge, 19 3rd St. N.W., from 8 to 10 p.m., Saturday. Ernst has been a professional wrestling announcer and hosted his own show, “A View from the Cheap Seats.” His TV credits include all major networks and CNN, TNN, ESPN, A&E, Comedy Central and HBO. Festival del Aguinaldo “A Latin Christmas Fest”

From noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Bartow’s Mosaic Park, 2250 S. Floral Ave., will be the site of a free holiday Christmas festival with a Latino twist. Sponsored by the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Polk County, there will be music, food, entertainment, giveaways and a visit from special guests.
