Things to do: More Krampus fun, sing-alongs, Jamie Lee, Hank Ruff

Krampus is back for a second event this weekend, Jamie Lee is performing at the Comedy Attic, and Hank Ruff is on stage on The Bluebird. There are two opportunities to raise your voice during a holiday sing-along or you could take the kids out to Paynetown State Recreation Area for the Winter Crafts and Scavenger Hunt Open House.

Here's some of what's happening this weekend in Bloomington.

Lots of music at Bloomington Christmas Sing-Along Friday

The Good Shepherd Band joins musical forces with the children’s choir and musicians from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music for an eclectic variety of music Friday. This year's Christmas Sing-Along will be 7-9 p.m. at Trinity Reformed Church, 2401 S. Endwright Road.

Afterward, there will be homemade cookies and cocoa as refreshments. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and anyone who wants to join the sing-along is welcome.

This year, voluntary donations of diapers and new baby clothes or other items listed on the Hannah Center’s wish list at https://www.hannahcenter.org/donate/ will be collected.

Country croonin' by Hank Ruff at the Bluebird Friday

Bloomington country artist Hank Ruff will perform his music at 9 p.m. Friday at The Bluebird, 216 N. Walnut St. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the 21-plus show. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or online at thebluebird.ws.

Stand-up comedian Jamie Lee returns to Comedy Attic on Friday, Saturday

Stand-up comedian, actor and Emmy award-winning TV writer and producer Jamie Lee returns to the Comedy Attic, 123 S. Walnut St., at 7 and 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Lee was a writer for the popular Apple+ show "Ted Lasso" and a reoccurring guest on "Chelsea Lately." Tickets are $16-$20 at www.comedyattic.com.

Tell tales with shadow puppets Saturday at the library

The shadows help tell the stories, utilizing shadow puppets 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday at the downtown Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. There's also crafting and some tasty treats for youth age 12-19. Learn how to create moving shadow puppets, and make your own shadow theater from a pizza box.

The Krampus Bizaar 2023 craft fair, presented by The Burnished Raven and sponsored by Bloomington Brewing Co., will be noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at 2234 W. Industrial Park Drive. See what crafts the vendors are selling, try some local beer, including BBC's Krampus Brew, fill up on food from Speakeasy Pizza and meet Krampus itself. While Krampus will be in attendance, the fair is a kid-friendly event.

Bloomington Chamber Singers present “Messiah Sing-along”

Bloomington Chamber Singers resumes its annual Christmas Messiah Sing-along at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 N. Ind. 46. This free holiday tradition draws hundreds of area singers (and listeners) who come together to sing part one and the “Hallelujah Chorus” of Handel’s beloved oratorio, Messiah. The singers and orchestra will be led by BCS Artistic Director Dr. Gerald Sousa.

Attendees are welcome to sing along or simply listen. A livestream of the event will be available at www.chambersingers.info. Attendees are invited to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to a local food pantry.

Winter crafts and scavenger hunt Sunday at Paynetown SRA

A winter crafts and scavenger hunt open house will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Activity Center inside Paynetown State Recreation Area, 4850 S. Ind. 446, near Lake Monroe. People can drop in anytime during the event. Registration is not required but RSVPs are appreciated on the Facebook event page bit.ly/winteropenhouse-monroe2023.

Several winter-themed crafts will be available for attendees to make inside the building, with hot tea and cocoa to sip on. There also will be an outdoor scavenger hunt that can be completed for a prize. People are encouraged to arrive early, or stick around after the open house, to enjoy a hike on the park trails. There is no fee to enter Paynetown SRA during winter season.
