Shakespeare in the Park at Alverno College

Optimist Theatre's traveling Shakespeare in the Park program has its first performance of the 2023 season at 5 p.m. July 9 on the campus lawn of Alverno College, 3400 S. 43rd St. This year's production is the Bard's "Cymbeline." Performances follow at eight other Milwaukee locations Aug. 13. Admission is free. Info: optimisttheatre.org.

Milwaukee Halal Restaurant Week

The second Milwaukee Halal Restaurant Week starts July 7, with 19 participating restaurants offering halal options on their menus. (Halal means the foods are permissible for Muslims; zabiha halal meats have been processed in accordance with Muslim guidelines.) Halal Restaurant Week runs through July 16. Out There Series at Havenwoods

Catch some not-so-typical performances in a not-so-typical setting when improvisational string quartet Tontine Ensemble and experimental artists C Vadi and Nicholas Elert take part in an Out There Series event at Havenwoods State Forest at 5 p.m. July 8. HomeGrown Music Festival in West Bend

The eighth annual HomeGrown Music Festival, featuring seven bands from every corner of Wisconsin, camps in West Bend's Regner Park, 800 N. Main St., from noon to 9 p.m. July 9. Admission is free (donations appreciated). Info: hometown.foundation/home-grown-music-festival-2023.

Whitefish Bay Art Fest

More than 100 juried artists will show their stuff at the Whitefish Bay Art Fest along East Silver Spring Drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 8-9. There also will be live music, kids activities, live art demonstrations and more. Admission is free. Info: amdurproductions.com.
