Things to do: Local production of 'Mean Girls' coming to Cambridge Performing Arts Center

The Cambridge Performing Arts Center returns with another sure-to-be smash-hit performance of "Mean Girls."

Based on the 2004 Mark Waters film and book by Tina Fey, the plot revolves around the new student at school, Cady, and her run-ins with the Plastics, the school's most popular girls. Headlining the show is Megan Morrow as Cady Herron, Dahlia Kiraly-Black as Janis, and Jackie Connell as everyone's favorite mean girl, Regina George. It's going to be so fetch.

Friday Art Walk

Stroll along downtown Zanesville and take in local artwork during the February First Friday Art Walk. Check out all of the ArtCoz galleries, as they open to the public. The Art Walk is scheduled to run from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 2.

Some of the participating galleries include Gallery Luminaria, Joel Yeager Art Studio and the Bunko Jess Gallery. The Ron & Eric Cole Aircraft Aviation Gallery will feature "all new art and historically significant interactive displays include a rare 450-year-old Japanese arquebus, touchable linen that covered Charles Lindberg's Spirit of St. Louis aircraft during his 1927 transatlantic solo flight, a section of railroad track that led to Dachau Concentration Camp (preserved by a former Jewish prisoner of the camp), Ron Cole's original painting of the airship Shenandoah in flight over the Muskingum County Courthouse circa 1925, and much more."

Live music

Tucked away in Barnesville is the Blue Moon Tavern. A favorite among locals, the venue will be hosting Deep Down Country. Grab a bite to eat, pull up a stool and enjoy some classic hits and square dancing favorites. There will be a $5 cover charge for the show. The performance is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday. Food drive at Brewhouse

The Guernsey Brewhouse will be hosting a food drive to benefit the GRACE food pantry from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Flannel Fest will include a full roster of local musicians sharing their talent. The performance schedule includes Bo Jamison at 5 p.m., Will Muncy at 5:30 p.m., Tracy Blaine at 6 p.m., Carson Clouse at 6:30 p.m., Zachery Tyler Chrisman at 7 p.m., Tim Ringer at 7:30 p.m., Keerstin Heslop at 8 p.m. and Brady McBride at 8:30 p.m. Hudson's Brick Oven Pizza and Subs will be available. Those wishing to donate are encouraged to bring canned and dry goods, with a focus on cereal, peanut butter and alfredo sauce. For more information call 740-995-3467. Symphony performance

Picturesque Brown Chapel at Muskingum University will be the setting for the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds' Gershwin show. Join them as they present “Love and Gershwin," a Valentine’s Day theme with a tribute to American composer George Gershwin. The show will feature pianist Harsha Abeyaratne, associate professor of music and director of keyboard studies at Muskingum. Musical selections for the evening include "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," and "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral." There is no charge for the concert, but donations will be accepted.
