Things to do: Learn about plants as you design your own landscaping

Join the Muskingum Valley Garden Society as it hosts the 2024 annual Spring Fever Home Gardening Symposium "...to celebrate 21 years of beautification service in the community." The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Hear about pollinators, backyard landscaping, native planting and more. Jim McCormac, The Campellies with Old World Gardens, and Michelle Illing with Muskingum Valley Park District will present at the event. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $45. A little weekend jam session is always enjoyable. Head up to Killing Tree Winery to hear the vocal stylings of Ethan Timm. Mardi Gras Dice Crawl

Start your Mardi Gras festivities at The Barn in Saturday for the Mardi Gras Dice Crawl. Guests can sign in at The Barn from 5 to 8 p.m. for a night of fun. The cost is $10 per person for a chance to roll the die and win one of 10 vacation packages. A van pass will also be available for purchase so you can easily reach your various destinations. The van pass is $5 per rider and will run from 5 to 11 p.m. making stops at Terry's Tavern, The Angry Bull, Just 1 More, The Corner Pub, Y Bridge Brewing, Kick N Ax, and The Blue Front. If you don't feel like venturing out, David Spires and Landon Tom will be performing from 7 to 11 p.m. All proceeds from the dice crawl event will go to benefit the Bishop Rosecrans Athletic Boosters. Diorama contest

There is still time to enter the most delicious contest around, the sixth annual Reading with My Peeps diorama contest hosted by the Muskingum County Library System. Contestants can create fun scenes using Peeps brand marshmallow candies and submit their creations for judging. According to the library website, "Dioramas will be displayed at John McIntire Library throughout March for visitors to vote for their favorite. The entry with the most votes will win a prize." Swing by the Youth Services Desk to pick up a set of peeps, the official rules, and the entry form as supplies last. Flea market

When you’re on the hunt for that retro piece or looking to see what surprises await, you can find it all at the Zanesville spring flea market, with rows of vendors selling everything from tools and plants to toys and vintage cassette tapes. Held at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds Veterans Complex, this flea market and bazaar is a great place to spend the afternoon and pick up some new spring decor.
