Thieves Trying to Steal ATM Machine, Tied it to a Stolen Garbage Truck — and Pulled: Authorities
Law enforcement have not apprehended the two suspects caught on video surveillance

The two thieves were caught on video surveillance Feb. 12, but their identities remain unknown.In the dark of morning on Feb. 12, two people in Alabama – dressed in head-to-toe black clothing and looking to make a buck – stole an ATM machine.
The thieving began in Birmingham, with the theft of a garbage truck, Lt. Joni Money said in a statement Feb. 20 detailing the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing investigation.
Later, at the 1600 block of Forestdale Plaza, the duo tied a chain to a tow hook on the city vehicle, connected it to the ATM machine and drove off — ripping the cash machine from its base, per Lt. Money.

The two thieves are depicted in the process of hooking up the ATM machine to the garbage truck, Feb. 12.The theft was caught on video surveillance footage, which captured the theft in its entirety — but no revealing characteristics of the two individuals.
Dressed in black hoodies, gloves, long pants and shoes, their faces remain covered throughout the burglary, per Lt. Money and still images of the footage provided by the sheriff’s office.
In one screenshot of the burglary, one of the individuals — head down — strikes a gesture as their accomplice hooks the chain between the ATM machine and the garbage truck. In the image, the long chain can be seen snaking its way across the sidewalk and onto the street, where it was already hooked up to the parked city vehicle.

The two suspects have not been identified from the Feb. 12 surveillance footage.Although the thieving duo successfully made off with the ATM machine, they reportedly did not make a single dollar off the cash money robbery scheme, as they were seemingly not able to break into the machine itself.
Jefferson County deputies followed what Lt. Money called “a debris trail” to the 1300 block of Heflin Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Feb. 12, where investigators recovered the ATM machine.

PEOPLE has reached out to Lt. Money for an update on the investigation, but did not immediately hear back.
As of Feb. 20, despite appeals to the public for help in apprehending the suspects, the extensive investigation into the set of robberies – which involves both the sheriff’s office and the Birmingham Police Department – has yet to yield a single arrest.
