Night Circus macarons, 03.25.20

I’ve been living in Erin Morgenstern’s fantastical worlds all this year, first in The Starless Sea (which I have been loudly recommending to anyone who will listen and a few who won’t) and most recently in her debut, The Night Circus. The titular circus is a world of black and white, but the rêveurs who follow it religiously adorn themselves with splashes of crimson “as a reminder that [they are] at heart a spectator, an observer.”

So when I accidentally left out the food coloring from the macaronage this morning, I instantly knew I should paint the inside of a piping bag with black gel, pipe little tents, and dye my remaining caramel buttercream—itself a fitting homage to the intoxicating smells and delightful confections of Le Cirque des Rêves—a rich red.

I’m only halfway through, but it’s making me miss my circus families more than ever. Now, back to the book…

These look amazing! @erinmorgenstern, check it out!
