TheWrap Wins Best Entertainment Website and More First-Place Wins at National Entertainment Journalism Awards 2018
TheWrap won Best Entertainment Website at the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, and also won top honors in commentary, blog and hard news categories.
TheWrap, led by Sharon Waxman, Tim Molloy and Thom Geier, won in the best entertainment website category, beating out fellow nominees Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Tonight and California Rocker.

The judges wrote: “The team behind TheWrap’s website understand the value of visual hierarchy, and refuse to bombard visitors with a dizzying barrage of headlines. Their in-house photography is colorful and clever, articles are precise, descriptive and engaging, and cover a vast and diverse array of topics in entertainment. They should also be celebrated for their commitment to feature their columnists front and center.”
TheWrap took several first-place honors at the awards including:
Founder and editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman won Best Commentary on Business, Politics or Social Issues for her 2017 post about the New York Times and Harvey Weinstein titled, “‘Harvey Weinstein’s Media Enablers’? The New York Times Is One of Them.” Executive editor Tim Molloy won first place in the Hard News online category for his investigative story about producer David Guillod headlined, “3 More Women Accuse ‘Atomic Blonde’ Producer David Guillod of Rape: ‘I Was Covered in Blood’.” Molloy was nominated twice in the same category. The second story was about “NCIS” stars Pauley Perette and Mark Harmon. Matt Donnelly was also nominated in the hard news category for his investigation of accusations that APA agent Tyler Grasham committed sexual misconduct. Veteran Wrap blogger Richard Stellar won Best Entertainment Blog for two nominated posts, “What Happens When We Dress Up as Monsters, or Nazis” and “Rocket Man.”
Molloy also won second place for humor writing for his column, “What ‘It’ Gets Right About Being a Kid in 1989.”
Steve Pond came in third for Commentary — Diversity/Gender for his Grammy analysis: “Damn, Kendrick, They Did It to You Again.”
Elisabeth Caren and Ada Guerin came in third in Feature Photo for “The Stars of “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.”
Donnelly came in third for Broadcast/Online Journalist of the Year.
TheWrap was nominated in 15 categories at the prestigious and coveted awards, including several photo and visual categories, for its award season magazines and for theatrical criticism.
The 11th annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards gala was held Sunday night at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
TheWrap also won best website in 2018 for a news organization exclusive to the internet at the L.A. Press Club’s SoCal Journalism Awards.
