There's a new Suits show in the works!

Perhaps due to the renewed popularity of the legal drama, Deadline reported in October 2023 that Suits creator Aaron Korsh was developing "a Suits offshoot" for NBC. Suits, which ended in 2019 after nine seasons, is now streaming on Netflix (the final season is streaming only on Peacock). In early 2024, it was revealed that Suits spinoff was called Suits: L.A.

Here's everything we know about the new show.

It's in the same universe as the original Suits.

Suits: L.A. is not a Suits revival or a reboot, but rather a new legal procedural set in a new location. (Similar to how there's NCIS and NCIS: Hawai'i, for example.) In late November 2023, Beatrice Springborn, president of Universal International Studios, revealed the show will "have the same energy and good looking people that the original did." She added that Suits: L.A. is "so fun and happy."

The official logline for Suits: L.A. is as follows: "His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved."

In February 2024, Deadline reported the show will film in Vancouver, will production slated to begin in March. Victoria Mahoney will direct the pilot.

Of the first episode, lead Stephen Amell told Deadline, "I’m trying to focus on what is directly in front of me, and what’s directly in front of me is a pilot script with more words per page than I have said in my entire career, by a factor of five. I’m just going to be a bit of a nervous wreck until we actually get on set and start shooting, which is in just about 27 days. Whatever, who’s counting?"

He added, "No, I’m really excited, and I’ve also really been enjoying the show. I hadn’t seen the original, and I’m familiarizing myself because I think certain shows, they’ll have a syntax to them. But big fan and just glad I get to be a part of the world."

Stephen Amell was cast as the lead, Ted Black, "a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others." The other cast includes:

  • Troy Winbush as Kevin, "Ted Black's old friend and ex-partner who is a former FBI agent and now a private detective"

  • Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, Ted's old friend who he launches Black Lane Law with

  • Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, "a savvy and strong-willed rising star" who works for Ted

  • Alice Lee as Leah, a young associate attorney at Black Lane Law

  • Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, Ted's protégé in the entertainment division

Three guest stars have also joined:

  • John Amos is playing himself as a client at Ted's firm

  • Victoria Justice as Dylan Pryor, a young movie star hoping to be represented by Ted

  • Kevin Weisman as Lester Thompson, a "smart and powerful man" who has been charged with murder

Because it is a new property set within the Suits universe, it's unlikely original cast members would return, including Meghan Markle. Yet, at the 2024 Golden Globes, Patrick J. Adams, said he'd love to return, "Let's go, I'd do it! I'm ready. Mike and Rachel in Seattle." Davis, who stars in Suits L.A. teased that there will maybe be "some sort of rollover from the original cast."

It's the third series in the Suits universe.

The Suits: L.A. show would be the third series set in the Suits universe, following Pearson, which followed Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) in Chicago. It ran for one season in 2019.

We'll update this story as soon as we learn more about Suits: L.A.
