The hype train for The Iron Claw began pretty early, long before the film's release, when Zac Efron started showing off the wrestler's body he had sculpted in order to play real-life fighter Kevin Von Erich. The film, written and directed by Sean Durkin, follows the Von Erich wrestling dynasty, which also includes Kevin's brothers Kerry (Jeremy Allen White), David (Harris Dickinson) and Mike (Stanley Simon) as their success in the ring in the '70s and '80s gives way to tragedy.

Efron, White and Dickinson trained with wrestling legend Chavo Guerrero Jr. in order to be able to accurately portray their moves on-screen, a physically demanding undertaking which Efron described as one of the "most challenging" of his career. But the thing that most viewers will take away from the movie is the emotional impact of Efron's performance as Kevin weathers a near-unfathomable amount of personal losses.
