After Queen Elizabeth II’s passing earlier this month, it appeared as though both Prince William and Prince Harry set aside their differences in order to attend the royal funeral proceedings and meet with mourners also grieving the loss of the late monarch. And although many are hoping this unfortunate situation might mend things between the brothers, it sounds like things may remain in limbo until Harry releases his highly anticipated 2023 memoir.

A source recently opened up to The Mirror and pretty much confirmed this, revealing that “any talk of a truce between the Prince and the Duke would only be temporary. There is still a serious amount of distrust in the air and there hasn’t been any cause for that to change.” The insider then added this lamentable tidbit: “The feeling is very much that there is little point in pursuing a repair in relations until all the cards are on the table.”

A refresher: The Duke of Sussex’s memoir, which was initially set to be released in December, is now delayed in the aftermath of the royal mourning period. Due to the setback, the book will now likely be published next year, per The Sun. And to make matters more 😬😬😬, it’s reported that a number of senior royals—including King Charles and Prince William—are “increasingly uneasy” about the contents of Harry’s book.

Adding to the tension is the fact that while they were both in the UK prior to the Queen’s passing, the brothers allegedly made few plans to meet one another. However, they *did* end up chatting for a bit but only due to a chance encounter. Per the Sunday Times, Will and Harry just so happened to drive past one another while on the Windsor estate grounds and wound their windows down to speak briefly. Oh, to be a fly on that wall car door!

As we now know, the quick talk took place prior to their grandmother’s death—an event that ended up thrusting the two back into the public spotlight for the first time in ages. And even so, there were a few uncomfortable hiccups. Case in point? Harry was given special permission to wear his military uniform at Queen Elizabeth’s vigil but was reportedly left “heartbroken” by his needing to remove the Queen’s “ER” initials from it, as he’s no longer a working royal. *Le sigh* BRB, reminiscing on simpler times, like when Prince Louis had a viral—and relatable—meltdown.
