Theo James is ready to learn the family business in a teaser trailer for The Gentlemen, a forthcoming Netflix series based on the Guy Ritchie film of the same name. The series, which premieres in March, takes place in the same world as the 2019 Matthew McConaughey crime drama, but introduces new characters.

The clip reveals the White Lotus star as the new Duke of Halstead, who becomes entangled in the criminal underworld after learning his estate houses an expansive weed business. The series also stars Ray Winstone as Bobby Glass and Kaya Scodelario as his daughter Susie.

The official synopsis notes, “The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizable country estate — only to discover it’s part of a clandestine cannabis empire. Moreover, many unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.

The Gentlemen was written by Matthew Read and created, co-written, and executive produced by Ritchie, who also directed the first two episodes. The cast includes Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Chanel Cresswell, Michael Vu, Max Beesley, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Pearce Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz.

Last year, James told Rolling Stone he doubted he would be part of the third season of The White Lotus despite loving his experience on the show.

“I mean, as anyone would say with Mikey boy, ‘Sign me the fuck up!'” James said. “But no, who knows. I don’t think he has a plan yet. It will be a whole round of new characters to explore with complicated dynamics and I’ll be watching.”
