Theatre Siena to stage three performances of 'Into the Woods' during homecoming weekend

ADRIAN — As part of its homecoming weekend celebrations, Siena Heights University will stage three performances of the musical “Into the Woods” starting today and continuing through Sunday, Oct. 15.

“Into the Woods” is a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, which takes inspiration from the Brothers Grimm fairytales. Theatre Siena’s rendition is directed by Michael Yuen, an assistant professor of musical theatre at SHU.

“It has been an honor to work on this production with the cast and crew,” Yuen said in a news release. “The students always bring such a vibrancy to the stage, and it is truly remarkable to watch that energy paired with such a celebrated work."

Shows start at 8 p.m. today and on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Sunday, Oct. 15, show is at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at www.sienaheights.edu/academics/theatre-siena/#tickets with $12 general admission and discounted rates for students, faculty, staff, seniors and children.

“Into the Woods” brings childhood favorites to life in a way never imagined as the character’s stories twist and intertwine,” SHU said in its release.

“It’s universal themes, challenging music and rich storytelling make ‘Into the Woods’ a favorite among professional and academic theatres around the world.”

The show has won Tony, Grammy and Drama Desk awards and has been regarded as a classic for 30 years with many Broadway revivals.
