'The Walking Dead': Is Glenn a Goner? Here's Why We're a Little Worried

SPOILER ALERT: Storyline and character spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead TV series and comics.

For those fans of The Walking Dead comics who’ve been wondering when a certain big baddie from the books might show up — we mean Negan, of course — the fact that Rick Grimes and his gang have set up camp in Alexandria could be a big sign that Negan’s arrival is imminent.

And, not that the TV series hasn’t veered in ways big and small from the comics storylines, but a Negan arrival could also mean a major departure for a member of Rick’s group. As in Glenn, sweet, beloved Glenn, who, in the comics, meets his end when his body meets the business end of Negan’s barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat, the weapon Negan named Lucille.

That’s just one of the reasons we’re seriously worried about Glenn’s continuing survival as we head into the final three episodes of Season 5.

Something Greg Nicotero Hinted At…
Earlier this month, Greg Nicotero told Yahoo TV why the season finale was expanded to 90 minutes. “I get chills when I watch [the finale]. I’m so proud of it. It’s such a powerhouse and the performances are just spot-on,” he said. “Everybody’s firing on all cylinders. When Emmy time comes along, if people don’t finally turn around and recognize the actors and the writers, then there’s something seriously flawed with the system, because I don’t think that we’ve told more dramatic and emotional stories on the series as of yet.”

Something Norman Reedus Said…
While answering fan-posed questions on Entertainment Tonight last week, Norman Reedus said viewers should “bring your Kleenex, and you’ll be screaming at your television,” during the March 29 Season 5 finale.

Something Melissa McBride Did…
During the show’s panel at New York Comic Con last October, Carol portrayer Melissa McBride got teary while talking about her co-stars, her character, and Season 5. “It’s been the time of my life,” McBride told fans about playing Carol. “It’s something I’m so proud of for the character. It’s been something I never saw coming, and if I keep going, I’ll cry.” She did, cry that is, and at the time, it made us concerned for Carol. Now, given that the cast appeared at NYCC around the time they were getting ready to, or just had, wrapped filming on Season 5, we’re wondering if McBride might have gotten teary because she knew about all the crushing deaths of other characters that were to come, Bob, Beth, Tyreese… Glenn?

Something Andrew Lincoln Said…
And tying all the pieces of our Glenn worries together is something TWD star Andrew Lincoln told the audience during a New York Times TimesTalks panel in February. Lincoln said there’s a big Glenn storyline in the second half of Season 5, and that Glenn’s portrayer, Steven Yeun, is the “hero” of Season 5B. Yeun himself said at the TimesTalks event that his favorite Glenn scene of the whole series unfolds in 5B, and since there have been no really big Glenn scenes yet in the second half of the season… Well, put it all together, and we’re concerned, really, really concerned about Glenn.

What do you think, TWD fans? If there is another big death before the end of Season 5, do you think Glenn’s the one in trouble? Which other members of Rick’s group are you worried about in the final three episodes of the season?

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
