‘The View’ Interviews Donald Trump

On Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called in to a show where he was often a target in the past, The View. However, with his nemesis Rosie O’Donnell absent, the tone of his phone chat was fairly civil.

The panel discussed many different subjects with him, including his thoughts on his opponents Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson, what the U.S. should do for Syrian refugees, and the Iran deal. But something that came up more than once was his relationship with female voters. Trump said, “My daughter Ivanka and my wife, they say, ‘You know, you should speak more about women’s health issues’ because they know how strongly and committed I am to it. And Jeb Bush and, to a large extent Hillary, are not committed like I’m committed.”

The interview was filled with crosstalk and interruptions. Michelle Collins tried to clear through the clutter when she asked, “Donald, what do you want to say to women? What’s your message?” Trump answered, “I want to say that I cherish women, and I will take care of women and I have great respect for women.”

Whoopi Goldberg asked Trump do more homework when it comes to things like Planned Parenthood: “You need to get a little bit more informed on what’s going on with women’s issues.” When Trump responded, “I do think I am very well-informed,” Goldberg interjected, “I swear to you, you are misinformed here.”

The end of the interview saw a request from the panel for Trump to actually appear on the show in person. Goldberg joked, “When you come here, it will be so much easier. Because we have to go, but we love you and we have to go to break. … We’ll have some snacks and stuff. Maybe a little wine.”
