The grandaddy of game shows, The Price Is Right, is getting a primetime makeover courtesy of three reality TV crossover episodes — and CBS’s crown jewel of unscripted TV, Survivor, will kick things off on May 23. Jeff Probst and a swarm of fan favorite castaways bring a fun, yet highly competitive, vibe to the Showcase Showdown. We spoke to Probst and TPIR host Drew Carey about the mashup.

Four past winners — Natalie Anderson, Jeremy Collins, Rob Mariano, and Tina Wesson — join Joe Anglim, Rupert Boneham, Cirie Fields, Woo Hwang, and Kelley Wentworth as representatives from various seasons of the venerable reality series. They team up with audience contestants (all Survivor superfans) to compete for amped up prize packages.

“They flew out contestants, had superfans in the audience,” says an amazed Probst. “Really, the truth is, it’s a little overwhelming. The amount of love from Survivor fans… it’s pretty powerful.”

Carey says there isn’t much competition between himself and Probst, but he is a little jealous of his co-host for one reason: “He gets to wear the most comfortable clothes.” If there’s one thing that’s apparent from the Survivor cast’s appearance, they know comfortable clothes. T-shirts, bandanas, and Rupert’s tie-dye shirt are bringing the island to Television City.

The Price Is Right Primetime Special: Survivor Edition airs Monday, May 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
