'The Mandalorian': Baby Yoda — and the Jedi — return in a new Season 2 trailer

The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda are returning to Disney+ on October 30... and the Jedi are coming along for the ride. A new trailer for the Emmy-nominated Star Wars show’s sophomore season has debuted online and suggests that the bounty hunter (played by Pedro Pascal) and his pint-sized companion are on a collision course with the far, far away galaxy’s resident space wizards.

“The songs of eons past tell of battles between Mandalore the Great and an order of sorcerers called Jedi,” says the Mandalorian clan leader, the Armorer, strongly suggesting that Baby Yoda belongs with their former foes. But the gunman previously known as Din Djarin is skeptical of that plan, replying: “You expect me to search the galaxy and deliver this creature to a race of enemy sorcerers?”

That’s exactly what we expect, Mando. After the freshman season told a largely standalone story with teasing connections to the wider Star Wars mythos, The Mandalorian collaborators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni now seem poised to tear into the Holocron with relish. And the return of the Jedi (again) is just the tip of the iceberg for what the duo has in store for Season 2.

Set after the events of the Original Trilogy, these episodes will provide some idea of what the Jedi Order looks like after Luke Skywalker toppled Emperor Palpatine. The trailer doesn’t confirm reports that Rosario Dawson will be playing the first live-action incarnation of Clone Wars fan favorite, Ahsoka Tano, but it does provide a first look at WWE star Sasha Banks wearing a cloak that’s awfully Jedi-like. (Some have suggested that she’s playing Sabine Wren, a Star Wars Rebels character with connections to the Jedi and Ahsoka.) Banks hyped her new gig on Twitter.

On his reluctant quest to find these “sorcerers,” Mando takes Baby Yoda on a tour of the galaxy that includes glimpses of X-Wings, landspeeders and what may be a Gamorrean fighting ring. That’s where he faces off against another new character, Gore Keresh, who some fans have classified as an Abyssin based on that one big eye of his.

The trailer also features glimpses of returning characters like Gina Carano’s badass mercenary Cara Dune, Carl Weathers’s bounty-hunter boss, Greef Karga, and Giancarlo Esposito’s Darksaber-wielding ex-Imperial officer, Moff Gideon. But let’s face it: The only character that matters to Twitter is Baby Yoda. Moments after the trailer’s premiere, new memes were multiplying all over social media.

Naturally, these memes are best appreciated in the company of Baby Yoda himself — get him on your desktop with Yahoo Entertainment’s exclusive AR Funko Pop figure. After all, this is the way to mentally prepare for everything The Mandalorian Season 2 has in store.
