'The Lobster' Trailer: Colin Farrell Can't Stay in a World Without Love

The Lobster, an off-kilter look at modern relationships starring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, and John C. Reilly with a brand-new trailer (watch above), drew mostly positive reviews–and lots of chatter about its unusual premise–after screening last year at Cannes and earlier this year at Sundance. In its world, single people are viewed as a detriment to society and therefore are rounded up, sent to a hotel, and encouraged to find a partner within 45 days. If they don’t, they are turned into the animal of their choosing. This is apparently what happened to Colin Farrell’s brother who, as the trailer reveals, is now a dog.

As directed and co-written by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), the film definitely skews toward the weird and slightly dark. But with The Lobster set to open in theaters on May 13, when the all-tentpole-all-the-time summer movie season will already be in full swing, weird and a little dark may be exactly what some people are craving.
