Do you believe in ghosts? Well, there are a bunch of celebrities who do after having eerie encounters with visitors from the afterlife.

With Halloween right around the corner, we thought we’d retell the best ones. So grab a warm cup of cider, a throw blanket, and maybe someone’s hand (to keep you safe!), and we’ll get right to it…

Demi Lovato: The newly single songstress’s experience with spirits touches close to home. In 2013, she told BuzzFeed that her own home is “haunted by a woman named Emily.

“I go ghost hunting,” said the brunette, 24. “My house in Texas is so ridiculously haunted. Not by a bad spirit, but a little girl. I think her name is Emily. I’ve had a medium come over and ghost hunters, and they both told me the same name, Emily. There were so many times that I saw her when I was growing up. I saw her in my closet one time. When I was 3 years old, my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, ‘Who are you talking to?’ and I said, ‘My best friend Emily.’ She’s playful. She’d probably be around 11 or 12 years old, maybe younger.”

The “Confident” singer also told another story about a ghost named Victoria. Funny that all her ghosts have such classic names — there’s not a Casper in the bunch!

Miley Cyrus: We’re not going to say that bong hits had anything to do with it, but the “Wrecking Ball” singer, 23, had a close encounter of the spooky kind in a rented London flat, a converted bakery, during her 2009 tour. She recounted the “terrifying” experience to Elle U.K. in 2013.

“One night, my little sister [Noah] — it sounds crazy to tell you — but she was standing in the shower, and all of a sudden I hear her scream,” Cyrus recalled. “I run in there, and the water had somehow flipped to hot. … The knob had turned, but she hadn’t turned it, and it was burning her. She was really red.”

In addition to her sis’s scorched skin, Cyrus experienced paranormal activity in the powder room, saying, “I thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower. I was sitting there the next night, and maybe I’m crazy, but I could have sworn I could see this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet.”

Some nosing around led Cyrus to discover that a family of three once owned the bakery. The parents died, leaving the son an orphan, and Cyrus insisted that the boy she was seeing was the son. But there were no more sightings of the creepy kid. “I had to move,” she said. “That’s not a lie. I will never stay there ever again.”

Kesha: Not only did the “Take It Off” singer, 29, see a ghost — she says she had sex with one. In a 2012 interview with Ryan Seacrest, Kesha said she had an experience that was truly out of this world in her early days of fame.

“I’ve got a song called ‘Supernatural’ … about having sex with a ghost,” she told the radio host. “I lived in this flophouse at Rural Canyon, and there was this weird energy that lived there, and it used to keep me up at night and wake me up. And it progressed into this dark, sexual spirit.”

The dark, sexual spirit never revealed his name to her. “He was a ghost!” she said — as in: Duh. However, she added, “I’m very open to it.” As for whether it spooked her out — even a little bit — she admitted it did. “It did scare me, but that’s part of the fun of it.” Hey, whatever turns her on!

Matthew McConaughey: All right, all right, all right — we all know how much the Oscar winner loves being naked (bongos!), so it won’t shock you to know that his ghostly experience took place in the buff. He had moved into a new pad and heard what sounded like a dime drop on a glass table. Wearing nothing but his birthday suit, he armed himself with a bat and brought along his dog to investigate. It was his first encounter with the colorful character.

“I go downstairs, and there’s nothing there,” the 46-year-old actor recalled. “I now know it was her, because I’ve seen Madame Blue since.” Of course, the actor described the spirit as a “cool ghost,” adding, “maybe me being nude all the time is why we get along.” Probably!

Ariana Grande: FYI — our favorite donut licker, 23, shared her ghost/demon experience with Complex magazine in 2013. She was in Kansas City and visited a haunted castle followed by “Stull Cemetery, which is known as one of the seven gates to hell on Earth.” Now that that’s established, we’ll let her tell you the story.

“I felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car, and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon,” said the “Dangerous Woman” singer. “I was like, ‘This is scary, let’s leave.’ I rolled down the window before we left and said, ‘We apologize. We didn’t mean to disrupt your peace.’ Then I took a picture, and there are three super-distinct faces in the picture — they’re faces of textbook demons.”

About that picture: “The next day I tried to send [it] to my manager, and it said, ‘This file can’t be sent, it’s 666 megabytes.’ I’m not kidding. I used to have a folder called ‘demons’ that had pictures with all the screencaps in it, but then weird things started happening to me, so I deleted it.”

What kinds of weird things? For example, “I was going to sleep about two weeks ago. I had just gotten off the phone, and as soon as I closed my eyes, I heard this really loud rumble right by my head. When I opened my eyes, it stopped immediately, but when I closed my eyes it started again with whispers. Every time I closed my eyes, I started seeing these really disturbing images with, like, red shapes. Then I opened my eyes and got back on the phone and was like, ‘I’m really scared, and I don’t want to go to bed tonight.'”

She continued, “Then I scooched over to the left side of my bed, because that’s where the best service is in my room, and there was this massive black matter. I don’t know what it was. … I started crying. I was on the phone like, ‘What do I do, what do I do?’ and they said, ‘Tell it to eff off.’ I thought, I’m not going to do that. It’s going to upset it, so I’m just going to chill and not feed into it, because all it wants is fear. It feeds on fear. I watched it move to the front of my bed, and then I fell asleep on the phone. I woke up, and it was gone.” OK, now we’re getting creeped out.

LONDON, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 20: Patrick Stewart attends the press night after party for
The ghost of Theatre Royal Haymarket, London’s oldest theatrer, came to visit Sir Patrick Stewart during a performance. Totally normal. (Photo: Getty Images)

Patrick Stewart: While performing Waiting for Godot with Ian McKellen at Theatre Royal Haymarket, the actor became distracted by a rather dapper ghoul. “I just saw a ghost. Onstage, during Act One,” Stewart told his BFF and frequent co-star, according to a story in the Telegraph in 2009. He said the man, standing just offstage, was wearing a beige coat and twill pants. According to stage hands, the mystery man he was seeing was the ghost of John Baldwin Buckstone, who was the actor and manager of the theater in the mid-19th century. Buckstone was also a friend of Charles Dickens.

The story was included in a documentary about the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with Nigel Everett, a director of the theater, saying: “Patrick told us all about it. He was stunned. I would not say frightened, but I would say impressed.”

HOLLYWOOD, CA - OCTOBER 03: Marilyn Manson attends the Premiere Of Drafthouse Films'

Marilyn Manson: Of course the wild rocker has a spooky story or two and — and he told them on Celebrity Ghost Stories in 2009. One took place when he visited his grandparents’ home as a child after one of them passed. The house was haunted, and it left him unable to sleep.

Here’s the story:

Because of those experiences, Manson said, he has a hard time believing movies about the spiritual world and ghosts. “A movie like Paranormal Activity — I watched that and felt condescended to or insulted because I’ve had more scary, more frightening, and more interesting and believable experiences happen that I can’t explain. I think they’re encouraged by my interest in things that maybe you shouldn’t look into.” Mwah-ha-ha!

Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn: The mother-daughter pair claim that they can see dead people. In the DVD extras for Kate’s movie 2005 Skeleton Key, she said, “I’ve seen ghosts plenty of times.” One of them was “a ghost of a woman with no face,” which the 37-year-old actress described as “really creepy.” Another time, her grandmother “came to me.” When she awoke, she “felt amazing that she was around me.”

In 2014, Kate also talked about her sixth sense during an interview on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man talk show. She said she and mom Goldie, 70, “see dead people.” She retold the story of the “ghost of a woman with no face,” noting, “It is not really seeing, it is feeling a spirit. A fifth energy. I believe in energy. I believe our brains can manifest into visual things.”

To Hudson, it’s not scary when it happens. “When you see something, you are supposed to tell the energy what year it is and that they don’t belong there,” she said. “When your brain is freaking out on you, you may have to remind it. Why is being dead funny?”

HOLLYWOOD, CA - JUNE 14: Actor Keanu Reeves attends the premiere of Amazon's

Keanu Reeves: Dude! The Matrix actor has also connected with the beyond — and has been able to from a young age.

“It was in New York,” the 52-year-old star said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “It was cool. So I’m, like, a little kid. I’m probably 6, 7 years old [in] a new apartment. … We’d come from Australia. Renata, my nanny, was in the bedroom. … There was a doorway, and all of a sudden, we’re looking over there and this jacket comes waving through the doorway, just empty — there’s no head, there’s no body, there’s no legs. It’s just there, and then it disappears.”

Reeves continued, “I was a little a kid, so I thought, ‘That’s interesting.’ And then I looked over at the nanny.” Her shocked face made him realize, “Oh, wow, so that was real. Cool. Was that a ghost? Or just some weird floating jacket?”
