You shop, scour, measure, prepare, chop, mix, season, pour, stuff, cook, eat and drink, and as a result of all that time and effort, you give your family a magnificent Thanksgiving meal, however exhausted you may be. After about an hour, it’s all over but the clean-up.

Or you say to the family, “Never mind. Let’s go out.” In about an hour, it’s all over, but someone else gets to slave over a hot stove and do the dishes.
