The comedy “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” will make its first visit to Ames at 7:30 p.m. May 1 at Stephens Auditorium.

“Following sold out performances and rave reviews across the country in 2023, The Golden Girls are back and better than ever with a brand new stage show that’s more exciting than a trip to the Rusty Anchor,” a news release stated.

The tour will include more than 40 cities this year.

“We are excited to be a part of the 2024 tour after missing out in 2023,” Tammy Koolbeck, Stephens Auditorium’s executive director, said in the release. “It’s a really fun show so gather your friends and make plans to attend.”

The cast, of all men, includes Ryan Bernier as Dorothy, Vince Kelley as Blanche, Adam Graber as Rose, Christopher Kamm as Sophia and Jason Bowen as Stanley/Burt.

“Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue allows audiences to relive the heartfelt hilarity of the four ladies who never stopped being best friends,” according to the release.

The stage play is written by Robert Leleux, author of “The Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy” and “The Living End.”

How long did ‘Golden Girls’ air on television?

For seven television seasons, four “Golden Girls” shared the joys, adventures and challenges of life – and lots of cheesecake – as they lived together in a Miami condo.

The 30-minute sitcom aired on television from 1985 to 1992, starring Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty.

Thanks to streaming services and reruns, the show has garnered many fans who weren’t yet born when it started airing on NBC.
