From Thai spice to European delicacies, these 4 restaurants are opening soon in Louisville

Summer heat and code red air quality alerts call for an escape from the outdoors, and what better way to find air conditioning and cold water than spending time at a restaurant?

A foodie city in its own right, Louisville is home to diverse cuisines and it soon will be home to four new restaurants in July and August, including a European delicacy restaurant and an authentic Thai food location.

All Thai'd Up, an authentic Thai restaurant that markets itself as "the ultimate Thai experience," will open in July at 4812 Brownsboro Center, formerly home to Gasthaus German Restaurant.

Chef Katherine Aphaivongs-Harrod said All Thai'd Up will feature dishes like steamed whole fish with a tamarind dressing, grilled items like the Crying Tiger, a sticky rice and papaya salad, The Courier Journal previously reported.

Aphaivongs-Harrod's favorite dish is a spicy basil stir fry with pork, a fried, sunny-side-up egg and white rice, which she equates to "the Thai version of a hamburger." The restaurant's deli menu will not be available as this location will "stick to Thai," she said.

CURED Restaurant and Salumeria

637 East Main St.; curedbutchertown.com; opening in August

CURED Restaurant and Salumeria is a modern European restaurant and bar offering savory, house-cured meats and cocktails, according to their website.

The location has plenty of unique offerings, including sopressata, or fragrances of fermented meat followed by tart, fruity, tangy flavors on the palate; speck, an aromatic dish with sweet, cured meat followed by black pepper and rosemary; coppa, a dish with long-cured pork and spices; and lardo, a type of salumi.

Smoked meats like guanciale — a cured pork jowl with flavors of butter and ground macadamia nuts, chicken, bacon and pork loin — are also available. Regular processed meats, like Spanish chorizo and deli meats are also available.

Home Run Burgers and Fries

6600 Bardstown Road; homerunburger.com; opening between mid and late July

Home Run Burgers and Fries announced on Facebook on June 1 that they will open a new location between mid and late July. The restaurant refers to itself as the "Home of the Certified Angus Beef Burger," and is a spot for high quality burgers and fresh cut fries.

Customers have the option to build their own double or triple burgers with prices ranging from $8.85 to $12.45 depending on toppings.

If you're feeling hungry, you can try Mama T's Favorite Burger Combo meal. Home Run's hamburger is topped with roasted red peppers, thousand island dressing, sautéed onions, slaw, bacon and American cheese. The meal ranges between $13.20 and $14.20 depending on size.

First Watch

7714 Bardstown Road; firstwatch.com; opening in August.

A new First Watch location, the eighth in the Louisville area, is coming to Fern Creek.

According to their website, they offer sunny skies and brunch vibes, with their seasonal menu including breakfast items, specialty coffees and drinks like the Mint Mocha Iced Coffee and the Watermelon Wake-Up.

For a taste of summer, try the Strawberry Tres Leches French Toast ($13.29), which is thick-cut, custard-dipped challah bread and topped with fresh strawberries, sweetened condensed milk, warm dulce de leche, whipped cream and spiced gingerbread cookie crumbles lightly dusted with powdered cinnamon sugar.

Craving Southern flavor? Try the restaurant's Lone Star Brisket Hash ($14.59), a smoked, hand-pulled brisket and house-pickled sweet peppers in a potato hash, topped with two cage-free eggs any style, cheddar and monterey jack cheeses, avocado, house-made pico de gallo, chipotle aioli and scallions served with two wheat-corn tortillas.
