Thai Express sister location to open Saturday; Springfield gets a new brunch spot

This week in Springfield-area restaurant news: You can get breakfast in Farmer's Park, visit Kimbrough's newest Asian restaurant for lunch, and score a new beanie with dinner. Plus, where to find unique hot dogs.

Simply Thai opening on Saturday

Simply Thai, 2808 S. Campbell Ave., was scheduled to open Saturday, Dec. 16. Like its sister location Thai Express, Simply Thai is a fast-casual model including a drive-thru.

The restaurant opened at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 16 and the first 100 customers were to receive a Nett Restaurant Group beanie with the purchase of an entree. On Saturday, the restaurant was scheduled to close at 8:30 p.m.

In the future, Simply Thai will be open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It will be closed on Sundays.

Doggy Style leaves mall, hits the road

If you're craving one of Doggy Style's unique hot dogs, you'll have to wait until after the holidays — and not just because Battlefield Mall is full of frantic shoppers.

The hot dog joint closed its mall location on Dec. 10, but will be operating from its food truck starting Jan. 8, according to a Facebook post. The truck will be in the Westlake Ace Hardware parking lot, 2350 S. Campbell Ave., from January until March.

Doggy Style is also debuting a new menu starting in January including "sandwiches, hot dogs, soups, burgers, and desserts."

JW's Kitchen opens for breakfast, brunch

The owners of Farmer's Gastropub have opened a brunch spot in Farmers Park. JW's Kitchen — named for owners Andy and Misty Hampshire's grandmothers Janet, Joyce, Wanda and Willy — will offer breakfast, lunch, cocktails, wine and bloody marys at 2144 E. Republic Road.

The British style of food carries on from the gastropub, with JW's Kitchen offering a full English breakfast: sausage links, bacon, black pudding, roasted mushrooms, broiled tomatoes, baked beans, two eggs cooked to order, fried potatoes and toast. For those who prefer the more traditional American breakfast, entrees such as biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles are also available. JW's Kitchen also offers salads, sandwiches, burgers and wings.

JW's Kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day except Tuesday.

Kimbrough Asian Cuisine Cafe opens

Kimbrough Asian Cuisine Cafe is now open in the former Rice House building, 625 S. Kimbrough Ave. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Kimbrough Asian Cuisine Cafe offers a mix of Chinese, Japanese and Korean food, including cashew chicken, ramen and Korean barbecue short ribs.
