Teyonah Parris Set To Star In Miki Howard Biopic
Bubbling actress Teyonah Parris has made quite a name for herself these past two years and shows no signs of stopping.
After playing the first major African American character on AMC’s hit drama series, Mad Men, and giving phenomenal performances in Dear White People (2014), Survivor’s Remorse (2014), and Chi-Raq (2015), Parris already has yet another project up her sleeve for the new year.
According to Shadow and Act, the actress will star in an upcoming biopic of Miki Howard, portraying the singer for the TV One production. Howard is best known for her rise to fame in the late 80s and early 90s with hit singles like “Love Under New Management,” “Ain’t Nobody Like You,” “Baby Be Mine,” and “Come Share My Love.”
The forthcoming biopic will be directed by NAACP Image award-nominee Christine Swanson, who gushed that bringing the R&B singer’s story to the small screen is a “privilege.” “I knew then that what we were embarking upon was going to be epic in terms of storytelling, nuance, and passion,” Swanson said. “Like myself, Miki Howard is a passionate individual who has a love for life. [Her music was a backdrop to my youth and now I get to translate her story on screen.”
Alongside Parris, audiences can look forward to Family Matters actor Darius McCary playing Gerald Levert, whom Howard had an on-and-off again relationship with. LisaRaye McCoy, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Gary Dourdan are also a part of the cast.
The Miki Howard Story is said to air on the small screen June 2016.
