Ahead of the 2024 Oscar nominations, Teyana Taylor has revealed her desire to be among the coveted list of contenders.

On Tuesday morning (Jan. 2), a Twitter account named Film Updates sent out a gentle reminder that the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 23. Taylor—who many feel should be on the Oscars shortlist due to her compelling performance in A Thousand And One—responded to the alert when tweeting, “Manifesting” paired with the prayer hands and fingers crossed emojis.

The visionary‘s dedicated fanbase rallied behind her with encouraging messages. One wrote, “Manifesting the nomination and already practicing my ugly cry for when you win. You got this!!” Another chimed in, “Oh if Teyana Doesn’t get an Oscar this year because BABY!!! She definitely deserves one!! But yeah if she doesn’t get it..might just be my super villain origin story.”

Thus far, Taylor’s performance as Inez in A.V. Rockwell’s feature film debut has earned her a nomination for Best Lead Actress at the Film Independent Spirit Awards and two nods for Outstanding Lead and Outstanding Breakthrough Performance at the Black Reel Awards. In 2023, she was awarded with the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Critics Choice Awards Celebration of Cinema & Television, the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards, and the National Board of Review.

Additionally, Variety named Taylor as one of 10 actors to watch in 2024. When speaking about the audition process, she explained, “I went in with an intent and I knew what I wanted. I knew the role was mine to lose. So I had to do all that I could to get it.” Rockwell admitted that the Harlem native came up early during the casting process, but she wasn’t convinced that Taylor had the skills to embody Inez—a single mother fresh out of prison who kidnaps her son from the foster care system in hopes of making a better life for them. However, Taylor showcased her range and shined in her performance.

She’s currently preparing to portray Dionne Warwick in an upcoming biopic.
