Update: 10:34 a.m. PT (Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023) — Iman Shumpert’s attorney, Stephen C. Steele, released a statement following a report about his estranged wife, Teyana Taylor, filing for divorce. Steele told TMZ, “Mr. Shumpert hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern.”

The former Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard also posted a meme of Joe Budden looking at his phone hours after the news broke, which can translate to Shumpert being confused by the allegations listed in the divorce filing.

It’s been revealed that Teyana Taylor filed for divorce from Iman Shumpert back in January, months before she announced their separation in September, according to TMZ.

The recent Visionary Award honoree accused the father of her two children of “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.” She also reportedly fought to keep their familial dynamic in tact, despite Shumpert “being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her.” The A Thousand And One star now considers their marriage to be “irretrievably broken.”

In the court documents, Taylor, 32, noted that she “began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage” as Shumpert, 33, grew increasingly angered about her stardom. She claimed to have turned down acting roles and recording opportunities because he “did not want her to work,” but then complained when she stopped working after giving birth.

Despite reconciling briefly, Shumpert reportedly “remained in an insecure state as his NBA career continued to wind down.” Taylor first filed for divorce in 2022, but withdrew the filing after one day.

The one-time NBA champion allegedly cheated on Taylor multiple times and once crashed her Rolls Royce, but fled the scene to evade a second DUI. In spite of the scandals, which she said were “embarrassing and humiliating,” Taylor said Shumpert “reacted with further cruel treatment and selfishness.” Shumpert reportedly moved out of their home in October.

The two met in 2011, were together for 10 years, married for seven, and share two daughters, Junie and Rue. Taylor is seeking primary physical custody, joint legal custody, and child support.
