Texas QB Quinn Ewers projected No. 6 overall in way-too-early 2024 NFL mock draft
The sky is the limit for Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers this season.
He has the traits and arm talent that NFL scouts covet in a quarterback. However, Ewers needs to show consistency in his play. If Texas’ starting quarterback has truly turned the corner and progressed this offseason as Steve Sarkisian has stated numerous times, the Longhorns could become a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.
Ewers looked like one of the top quarterbacks in the country in games against Alabama and Oklahoma last year. In a few other games, he looked like a deer in headlights. Demonstrating consistency in 2023 will bode well for Ewers’ NFL draft stock.
Preseason hype surrounding Texas football is seemingly always at an all-time high, but the amount of first-round NFL draft talent for 2024 is catching many by surprise.

Middlehurst-Schwartz projects Ewers to be taken off the board at No. 6 to the Washington Commanders.
A franchise about to open a much-awaited new era would be wise to keep an eye on the top quarterbacks in the draft, as 2022 fifth-round pick Sam Howell and journeyman Jacoby Brissett don’t provide much reason to believe they can elevate an offense. This projection might seem high for a player who only recently reasserted his starting status, but Ewers boasts rare arm talent to thread tight-window throws.
Ewers was a perfectly rated five-star quarterback coming out of high school. A shoulder injury suffered against Alabama limited his first year as a starter in Austin. He concluded the season with 2,177 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders were also considered first-round projections in USA TODAY Sports’ mock draft.
