Texas guard Andrew Jones makes positive step in leukemia recovery
Nearly five months after it was announced by the University of Texas that he had been diagnosed with leukemia, Andrew Jones was given the go-ahead to enroll in web-based coursework this summer.
The sophomore will also move into a dorm room at the university.
“Andrew continues to receive treatment,” said Texas coach Shaka Smart in a statement released by the school, “but this is another positive step in his recovery.”

Jones’ health first became a concern when he struggled to regain form after returning from a fractured wrist last December. He lagged on the court. His energy was zapped. So, he returned to the doctor only to receive the heartbreaking news.
He was diagnosed with leukemia, which Texas announced Jan. 10.
Ever since, Jones, who averaged 11.9 points as a freshman and a team-high 15.3 points before the wrist injury last year, has continued to fight. Thursday’s news is the most positive in months.
