‘The Butterfly Garden’ Optioned By Anonymous Content & PalmStar Media
EXCLUSIVE: Anonymous Content and PalmStar Media have optioned the feature rights to the new Dot Hutchison psychological thriller novel The Butterfly Garden. Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar will produce with PalmStar Media’s Kevin Frakes, this after they teamed up on the upcoming Will Smith-starrer Collateral Beauty. Ashley Zalta of Anonymous and PalmStar’s Mark Fasano will be executive producers. Published June 1 by Thomas & Mercer, the novel is a crime mystery about a beautiful garden near an isolated mansion, where there lives a collection of precious “butterflies”—young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens. When the garden is discovered and a survivor brought in for questioning, two FBI agents are tasked with piecing together one of the most stomach-churning cases of their careers. But the girl proves to be a puzzle herself as she recounts her life in the Butterfly Garden, and horrific tales of a man who’d go to any length to hold beauty captive. The more she shares, the more the agents have to wonder what she’s still hiding. Hutchison previously wrote A Wounded Name and is writing Roses Of May for publication next year.
Sugar, who’s coming off the Best Picture Oscar for Spotlight, called the novel “uniquely original and transfixing with a storyline that captures and holds readers’ attention through every twist and turn.” The author is repped by APA and the L. Perkins Agency.
