EXCLUSIVE: Terrifier 2 and 3 sales firm The Coven is making its first foray into production with exorcist horror Shadow Of God, which quietly wrapped principal photography in Calgary, Canada, last month.

The film follows an elite exorcist who suspects that he might be battling a holy entity with the ability to change the present world. Above is a first-look image.

Cast is led by Mark O’Brien (Arrival, Ready or Not), Jacqueline Byers (Prey for the Devil) and Shaun Johnston (Heartland, Wynona Earp). The film is the third feature directed by Michael Peterson (Lloyd the Conqueror).

The Coven, which has its HQ in France but also has an office in the U.S., produces with Peterson Polaris Corp (Harpoon). Pic was written by Tim Cairo (Low Life). The Coven will handle worldwide sales at next month’s EFM in Berlin.

Producers are Peterson, Kendall Anlian, David Hiatt, Kurtis David Harder and Taylor Nodrick. Executive producers include Smith, Cairo, and Brendon Halloran. Casting director is Coco Kleppinger.

Byers starred in Lionsgate horror hit Prey For The Devil in 2022, while O’Brien is known for supporting roles in genre hits Ready Or Not and Arrival. Johnston is best known for starring in long-running Canadian series Heartland.

Said director Peterson: “We’ve made an exorcist film that adds new elements to the genre while also honoring its traditions. It was incredible watching this amazing cast and crew bring this fearless script to life. A creative dream come true.”

Priscilla Smith of The Coven added: “We boarded the project because the pacing and intensity give it global commercial value. But the icing on the cake is the striking contrast of a dark societal underbelly set in magical, snowy Calgary. It’s shocking to the senses, and a fresh look for lovers of the supernatural.”

The third instalment in horror breakout franchise Terrifier is due to start production early this year.

Mark O’Brien is repped by Thruline Entertainment, The Characters, UTA and LGNAFC. Jacqueline Byers is repped by Gersh, Entertainment 360 and Jackaway Tyerman Wertheimer.
