After waiting nearly two years since the first season of House of the Dragon aired on HBO, fans finally have a full official trailer for the show’s second season, which is set to premiere on June 16.

The Game of Thrones prequel captured viewers’ attention back in the summer and fall of 2022, showcasing the story of Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and House Targaryen hundreds of years before the original characters of GoT existed. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood; Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik serve as showrunners, a switch-up from Game of Thrones’ showrunners and co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.

Tensions are running high in the trailer for House of the Dragon’s upcoming season. We see the dynamics between the Hightowers and Targaryens boiling over as both sides plot against the other.

“The Targaryen who sits on the Iron Throne is not just a King or a Queen. They are a protector of the realm,” Rhaenyra says in the background of the trailer. “Now I find myself in an impossible position. The enemy usurped my Throne.”

Then as Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) encourage Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) to “proceed with caution” against the rest of the Targaryens, Aegon yells out, “Fuck dignity, I want revenge.”

Between shots of fire-breathing dragons, screaming townspeople, soldiers on horseback, and contentious moments between family members — even those who are on the same side of the war — the new trailer for Season Two of House of the Dragon is setting us up for quite the ride come June.
