A dominant sports dynasty descends into a tense relationship between NFL coach Bill Belichick, star quarterback Tom Brady and team owner Robert Kraft in the trailer for Apple TV+’s The Dynasty: New England Patriots, which dropped on Tuesday.

The 10-part series from Imagine Documentaries is based on a best-selling book by Jeff Benedict and chronicles the rise and historic 20-year run of the Patriots during the celebrated Brady-Belichick-Kraft era. But the docu-series directed by Matthew Hamachek also exposes an apparent tense undercurrent surrounding the team.

“There’s things that were done that can’t be undone,” Brady says in an interview during one point in the trailer against game footage of Belichick tossing a water bottle in anger on the sidelines.

Benedict spent two years with the Patriots while writing his book, which was published in 2020. The filmmakers behind the Apple TV+ series also had access to the team during the 2021 season, the second after Brady left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I was just trying to hold it together the best I could,” Patriots owner Kraft adds in another interview included in the trailer. Apple TV+ touts the series, which will launch on Feb. 16, as “the untold true story behind the team you love (or love to hate).”

The Dynasty: New England Patriots draws on never-before-seen video footage and audio files from the Patriots team vault, as well as interviews with players, coaches and executives, and all centered on Kraft, Belichick and Brady.

The documentary series is executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, Benedict and director Hamachek. Miranda Johnson-Smith, Meredith Kaulfers and Jonna McLaughlin are co-executive producers.

Apple TV+ and Imagine Documentaries earlier worked on the four-part docuseries The Super Models.
