Tennis state finals roundup: Mason, Haslett, Portland lead area teams

Emma Chrome added to her strong season at No. 1 singles while helping the Mason girls tennis team lead the way among area programs at the Division 2 state finals.

Chrome reached the semifinals at the top flight in Division 2 before falling to top seed Lizzie Novak of Mattawan. Novak went on to win the state title.

The deep run by Chrome, a senior, helped Mason total eight points for an 11th-place finish.

East Lansing had six points and had two flights get to the third round. Leah Wronikowski (No. 2 singles) and the No. 3 doubles tandem of Ella Miller and Ayusha Subedi led the performers for East Lansing by getting to the third round.

Division 3

Haslett had six points, St. Johns had five points and Williamston finished with four at the state finals.

Two flights reached the third round for Haslett. Prabhleen Pawar and Kathleen Leighton advanced to the third round at No. 1 doubles, while Ela Emden and Delaney Frank made a run at No. 4 doubles.

Williamston was led by its No. 3 doubles team of Maggie Sinke and Lilli McGuire, which reached the third round.

Division 4

Alyssa Jack paced Portland, which finished with six points at the state finals.

Jack reached the third round at No. 1 singles, while Portland's No. 1 doubles team of Kara Kraczon and Bella Virk also reached the third round.

Ovid-Elsie had four points at the finals and was led by Christina Rademacher-Vine, who reached the third round at No. 3 singles.
