An elderly man was rescued earlier this week after getting trapped inside a grain bin in Tennessee.

Crews from various local departments responded to the scene on Henryville Road in Henryville around 2:15 p.m. local time after a report was made about a man “entrapped inside a grain bin,” according to a news release from Chief Nathan Keeton of the Ethridge Fire Department.

Lawrence County officials said the victim, described as a 70-year-old man, was with his sons at the time of the incident, according to ABC affiliate WKRN-TV.

The man got stuck near the middle of the bin, and was “90% entrapped in the corn” when crews arrived, Keeton said. He received “medical assistance” from first responders before they pulled him out of the bin.

Photos of the rescue, shared by the EFD, show crews climbing to the top of the bin and using tools to create an opening for rescuers to climb through and access the victim.

The images also show the efforts inside the grain bin to rescue the man, whose identity has not been publicly released.

First, crews deployed a rescue tool known as a “turtle tube” to help keep him stable and secure during the rescue.

They then removed corn from around the victim before using another grain rescue tool called “The Great Wall,” which was used for “greater stabilization.”

“It’s just used to stabilize the grain, push down to stop the grain from pushing in on a patient because you’ve got all of that weight pushing in on it,” Powell told WKRN-TV.

A vacuum truck was used “to help remove corn from the bin so the patient could be removed” through its access door.”
